I've realised where I was going wrong!

Wow, a break through! I got a whole load of help from the forum I post on this afternoon. I posted a picture of mine that I had taken on the Aperture Priority setting & the EXIF data (the info that tells you what aperture size, shutter speed etc used to take a pic) on the site & asked for guidance on how to resolve the problem. It turns out that I have to adjust the ISO setting too, I don't know why I didn't think of this.

Anyway, I re-read some information that I'd found about the 'exposure triangle' and it is starting to make more sense. The less light there is the higher the ISO required. So this evening I have been taking a few shots in 400 ISO and adjusting the aperture and this seems to be working much better!
